Snow Melt System Rebuild in Vaughan
We were called upon to check out a freshly installed radiant floor heating and snow melt system that was not working as it should. The owner complained that often times they were running out of domestic hot water, something that with four little kids in the house was unacceptable. In addition to the hot water issues the snow melt was not working properly and the noise in the mechanical room was considerably more than they thought it should have been.
The original contractor was unable to solve the problem
Unfortunately this turned out to be another hydronic malpractice committed by an incompetent installer who charged an arm and a leg for his butchery. The home owner was stuck with a nonperforming system that could not be fixed, only completely redone. When it comes to cases like these we find it very difficult to break this news to the home owner. He just spent a fortune on something that cannot be salvaged.
The last thing he wants to hear is that you cannot fix it.
Often they search around until they find someone who says he can fix it cheap. They then throw good money after bad and end up where they begun in the first place. By then they get disgusted with the whole setup and swear never to even consider hydronic radiant heating. It is the sad reality.
Luckily in this case the home owner was also in construction and had the insight of how these things worked out. He also held some of the funds back until he was satisfied with the system’s performance. That made this bitter pill easier to swallow.
